Stripe Error: Expired Card — What It Means & How to Fix It

The card expiry date has passed, so the issuer rejects authorization.

Common causes

  • Stored card on file is old
  • Customer received a replacement card and did not update details
  • Manual entry with stale expiration date

How to fix it

  1. Ask the customer to update card details.
  2. Enable card updater features where available.
  3. Send a payment method update link in your dunning email.
